白米除了可以煮成飯充飢外，還可以成為色彩繽紛的 “Kollam” 民族藝術喔。為了迎接屠妖節的來臨，印度人會使用染上色彩的米粒，在大門前拼成一幅五彩繽紛的 “Kollam” 製作美麗的 “Kollam” 是每逢屠妖節，印度人必行的風俗之一，目的是為了迎接在佳節期間到訪的客人。除了迎賓的用意，更重要的是為了促進人們團結合作的精神。
Traditionally drawn using coarse rice powder, it invites birds and other small critters to feast on it, thus as a sign of invitation to other beings into one's home and everyday life. Due to its significance, Indian households display intricate kolam designs to welcome guests and family members into their homes before the start of the celebrations.
